William Gibbs received his Juris Doctorate from Northern Illinois University College of Law in 1988 where he graduated Cum Laude. Throughout his 30 years of practicing law he has focused primarily in criminal defense and family law. Before becoming a licensed attorney, he clerked with the State’s Attorneys Appellate Prosecutor researching and drafting briefs in criminal appellate cases on behalf of the People of the State of Illinois.

Once admitted to the Illinois bar, he worked for four years with the State’s Attorney’s Office in McHenry County prosecuting matters ranging from petty traffic matters to felony Home Invasion. Thereafter, he worked for the Kane County States Attorney’s Office where, for two years, he was assigned to the Kane County Child Advocacy Center, focusing on prosecuting cases involving sexual and physical assaults on children. Thereafter, he moved on to a handling all types of felony prosecutions including participation in a specialized drug unit.

After leaving the States Attorney’s Office to enter private practice William focused on criminal defense and family law.  Throughout his career as a criminal defense attorney, he has defended individuals in all criminal matters in counties throughout the State of Illinois.  William has defended individuals charged with all types of criminal offenses including but not limited to Murder, Sexual Assault, Felony Drug Possession and Delivery.  He has conducted hundreds of jury trials and when necessary pursued appeals resulting in reversals of convictions and reduction of sentences.  In addition to his experience in criminal law, William’s experience in family law has been extensive and has evolved with the changing laws in the area of family law.  His focus has been on fighting for individuals going through the difficult process of divorce and assisting single parents in obtaining support and parenting time with their children. As with his experience in criminal law, he is a litigator who desires to fight for individuals in court.
